2	SOLUBILITY	Soluble at 20°C in 100 parts of water, in 8 parts of alcohol, in 12 parts of chloroform and in 7 parts of propylene glycol.
3	IDENTIFICATION	A] To comply with the test as per BPC. B] The ultraviolet absorption spectrum of 0.005% w/v solution exhibits the maxima at 270 nm about 0.40 using 1 cm cell.
4	MELTING RANGE	Between 70°C and 73°C.
5	CHLORIDE	To comply with the limit test for chloride as per BPC.
6	O-CRESOL	Any blue colour produced is not deeper than that of produced with 3 ml of 0.001% w/v solution of o-cresol standard similarly treated as sample.
7	LOSS ON DRYING	Not more than 0.5%
8	SULPHATED ASH	Not more than 0.1%
9	ASSAY (On Dried Basis)	Mephenesin contains not less than 99.0% of C10 H14 O3.
